Lambda Literary, the nation’s leading LGBTQ literary organization, seeks a creative,  detail-oriented, and highly collaborative Review Manager to curate, craft, and envision digital content inside the Review and Lambda’s social media channels. 

In 2010, Lambda Literary reformatted its time-honored Literary Review (formerly the Lambda Book Report, which began in 1989) into an online platform that celebrates, serves, informs, entertains, and connects the whole of the brilliantly diverse community that creates and LGBTQ literature. After a transformational redesign in 2020, the online Review and affiliated social media platforms now reach over 300K+ visitors annually.

For over 30 years, Lambda Literary has championed LGBTQ books and authors. No other organization in the world serves LGBTQ writers and readers more comprehensively than Lambda Literary. We believe that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer literature is fundamental to the preservation of our culture, and that LGBTQ lives are affirmed when our stories are written, published, and read.

What You’ll Do

The Review Manager serves as the managing editor for the Lambda Literary Review, an online journal of LGBTQ book news, reviews, and features, and promotes Review and related LGBTQ literary content on our social media channels. This is a full-time opportunity in a remote office environment; New York City-based candidates preferable but all will be given equal consideration.

The Lambda Literary Review (50%)

  • Own Lambda Literary Review on website, by curating, calendarizing, editing, and publishing 1-2 articles a week.
  • Manage, recruit, identify, and engage reviewers, interns, and volunteers who contribute content to the site.
  • Collect and track reviewer contracts, contact information, and payments.
  • Read, accept, and reject pitches and call for submissions that come through the Editor’s inbox.
  • Maintain online resource pages including literary resources and upcoming calls for submissions.
  • Coordinate overhaul of Review infrastructure to make submission and inquiry process more efficient and manageable.
  • As needed, pick up advance reader copies (ARCs) at post office box and ship to reviewers or facilitate delivery of materials directly to reviewers.
  • Compose and edit monthly e-newsletter, which currently serves as a digest of Review content.

Social Media Management and Event Promotion (25%)

  • Work with the Executive Director to steer the direction of Lambda’s digital content.
  • Coordinate and strategize organization-wide posting across social media platforms. 
  • Amplify Review content regularly and repeatedly on Lambda’s social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) and seek out new ways to engage Lambda’s readership through these and other social media channels.
  • Manage interns and consultants to create social assets and develop in-house as needed. 
  • Assist in other program communications (Lammys, Retreat, Writers in Schools), if needed and bandwidth allows.
  • Support the to-be-hired Individual Giving Manager with bi-bannual digital fundraising campaigns.

Staff and Organizational Support (25%)

  • Update general Lambda Literary outreach materials as needed.
  • Assist in tracking media mentions as well as media contacts.
  • Attend and contribute to wider staff meetings and check-ins with the Executive Director.
  • Brainstorm and lead independent special projects, as time permits.

  • A project manager who possesses superb organizational and process management skills

If You Were Here Right Now, You Would Be

  • Replying to reviewers, editing content, and maintaining the Review posting schedule
  • Boosting Review content on our socials 
  • Leveraging our audience to raise awareness of issues important to LGBTQ readers and writers
  • A minimum of 3–5 years of fast-paced and detail-oriented editor management experience.
  • Demonstrated passion for LGBTQ books, and knowledge about the literary world and/or the publishing industry.
  • Superb written communication and editorial skills.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and successfully motivate a wide variety of individuals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and easily approachable to colleagues and community stakeholders.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Strong, demonstrated understanding of social media.
  • Strong computer skills, with the proven ability to use Microsoft Office/Google Suite, Excel, and databases. Experience editing content in WordPress or similar content management system preferred. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.) a plus.
  • Ability to handle proprietary or sensitive information with discretion.

Annual Salary: $58,500.00 plus a benefits package that includes healthcare insurance and paid vacation
