A Protest Reading in Support of Black Lives

Lambda Literary is a proud member of the Poetry Coalition, a network of 25+ literary organizations from across the United States dedicated to promoting the value poets bring to our culture. 

Next week, the Poetry Coalition is honored to present One Poem: A Protest Reading in Support of Black Lives. In this first-ever nationwide reading curated by the coalition, a poet invited by each member organization will share a poem in support of Black lives. The reading will take place on Tuesday, August 18 at 5 p.m. PDT or 8 pm EDT via live broadcast (closed captioning available)

Representing Lambda Literary will be Lambda Fellow Matthew Thompson. Also performing will be 2020 Lambda Trustee Award Winner Jericho Brown and former Lammy finalists Kazim Ali and Safia Elhillo.


Additional poets include: Prisca Afantchao, Sojourner Ahebee, Meera Dasgupta, Kwame Dawes, Tongo Eisen-Martin, Martín Espada, Sesshu Foster, Kimberly Jae, Raina J. León, Mwatabu Okantah, Alberto Ríos, Terisa Siagatonu, Emma Trelles, Monica Youn, and avery r. young. This virtual event is free. Attendees will have the opportunity to contribute funds to support organizations nationwide working against racial injustice.
