Paragraph: Workspace for Writers is excited to announce our 2020 Jane Hoppen Residency. We are offering a six-month residency to a New York City-based writer who represents the LGBTQ+ community. The residency provides full-time access to both our Union Square and Williamsburg locations. Select finalists will receive one-month residencies. This year’s residency will run from June 1 to December 1, 2020.
Jane Hoppen was a longtime member at Paragraph and one of the first people at our communal space every morning. Her decency and dedication had a profound effect on every writer she encountered. Her fiction appeared in various literary magazines, and she published two novels, a novella and a non-fiction book. We are seeking emerging LGBTQ+ writers who embody Jane’s values.
Applicants should be writers of fiction, non-fiction, memoir, poetry, theatrical plays or screenplays. They must be located in New York City as our residency does not include lodging or transportation. Applicants will be required to submit a short sample of their work along with a 500 word personal statement. The application deadline is Friday, April 10, 2020.
