This September, City Lights will be releasing Sister Spit: Writing, Rants and Reminiscence from the Road—an exciting collection of writing/artwork from the feminist spoken word and performance art group Sister Spit. Edited by Michelle Tea, the anthology includes the work of: Eileen Myles, Beth Lisick, MariNaomi, Cristy Road, Cassie J. Sneider, Ali Liebegott, Blake Nelson, Lenelle Moise, Myriam Gurba, and Michelle Tea herself, among many other amazing artists.
From the publisher:
Sister Spit: Writing, Rants and Reminiscence from the Road captures the provocative, politicized, and risk-taking elements that characterize the Sister Spit aesthetic, stamping the raw energy and signature style of the live show onto the page. Bratty poets and failed priestesses, punk angst and tough love, too much to drink and tattooed timelines—this anthology captures it all in a collection of poetry, personal narrative, fiction, and artwork. Featuring a who’s who of queer and queer-centric writers and artists, the collection functions as a travelogue, a historical document, and a yearbook from irreverent graduates of the school of hard knocks.
If you happen to be in Los Angeles this October, Skylight Books is holding a reading on the 18th, and if you can’t make it to that, you can check out some performances from their 2012 tour here.
