In January 2006, I became director of Lambda Literary Foundation, which publishes the Lambda Book Report. At that time, the Lambda Book Report hadn’t published an issue in over six months because of a lack of resources. I’m proud to announce that with the community’s support, Lambda Book Report resumed publication in May 2006 as a quarterly.
To sustain the momentum of our reorganization, Lambda Literary is starting a formal Membership program, with different levels of participation and benefits. See Membership Benefits.
With your renewed support, Lambda Literary will be able to serve more readers of LGBTQ literature through the Lambda Book Report, to mentor emerging voices through a Writer’s Retreat, and to honor our literary heroes through the Lambda Literary Awards, the most celebrated awards program in the country for LGBTQ books and writers.

Last May, upon accepting the Bill Whitehead Award for Lifetime Achievement, writer and activist Karla Jay spoke of the circle of American and British lesbian expatriates in turn-of-the-century Paris (Natalie Clifford Barney, Gertrude Stein et. al.), who, through their salons and financial generosity, nurtured writers and artists: “Everyone who was anyone felt that she or he had a stake in fostering the literature of the day,” Jay said, and concluded her speech by calling on the audience to “create a new model of helping everyone in the LGBTQ communities who merits being heard,” citing Lambda Literary as one of our “best hopes for creating the kind of community we all need.”
