2007 GUIDELINES - FOR REFERENCE ONLY

1) Lambda Literary Awards are presented in twenty-one (21) categories (see below). In determining whether a book should be nominated, consider that the Lambda Literary Awards are based principally on the quality of the writing and the LGBT content of the work. The sexual orientation of the author is secondary.

2) Nominations will be accepted between September 1 and December 1, 2007.

3) A book can be nominated only by its author or by its publisher.

4) A book can be nominated in a maximum of two categories. If you have any questions about which category would be most appropriate for a book, please email us at awards@lambdaliterary.org.

5) If a category receives less than ten (10) nominations, the category will not be active in this awards cycle. The nominated books will be reassigned to another category if appropriate, and the administrative fee will be refunded if the book cannot compete in another category.

6) Each nomination includes a completed nomination form, an administrative fee of $20, and four (4) copies of the book. . Only one nomination form is required per book; however, additional fees and books are required if a book is nominated in two categories. Example: A debut novel may be entered in both the Fiction and Debut Fiction categories. One (1) nomination form, two fees ($40) and eight (8) copies of the book will be necessary to be judged in both categories.

7) For books being published in late 2007 (especially December), bound galleys or bound manuscripts are accepted in lieu of finished copies of the book.  Please note: electronic versions of books (PDFs) are not accepted.

8) The book must be published and distributed (i.e. available in bookstores) in the United States during 2007.

9) Self-published books are eligible.

10) Paperback reprints of previously published hardcover books are not eligible. Second (or later) editions of a book are eligible if there is at least 25% new/revised content from the previous edition(s).

11) The book must be published in English. Translations from other languages into English are accepted (and encouraged).

12) Each category will have five finalists, to be announced no later than March 15, 2008.

13) Each category will be judged by four individuals. Judges may be writers themselves, booksellers, librarians, teachers, book reviewers, journalists, and/or members of the literary community. No editor or publisher or member of the Board of Trustees is eligible to serve as a judge. The identity of the judges will be made public when the winners are announced.

14) Winners will be announced at the 20th Annual Lambda Literary Awards Ceremony, to be held on Thursday, May 29, 2008, in West Hollywood, CA.
